US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in town today from Seoul, Korea. This is the last stop in a trip that has also included Tokyo and Jakarta. According to the New York Times, she is scheduled to meet today with President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and other top officials. After months of at times bitter cold this winter in Beijing, residents were finally treated to a winter wonderland. In the past few days the city has been blanketed in several inches of snow, slowing down traffic and rendering typically noisy streets a little more quiet. According to the Associated Press, 4,000 people have been to the Great Wall at Badaling this work week to enjoy the "quite rare" sight of the snow-covered wall.

This past week's Lantern Festival marked the end of the celebration of Chinese New Year here in the capital city. Chinese New Year is the most major holiday in Chinese culture, and nearly all Chinese in mainland China will travel back home to reunite with family. In Beijing, the new year was warmly ushered in, most visibly, with days on end of fireworks and large temple fair gatherings.
