Icelandic volcano cancels flights

China's two largest international airlines have announced they've canceled most scheduled flights to Europe, due to the massive plume of volcanic ash that has tranquilized much of its airspace, according to Xinhua News. The airlines -- Air China and China Southern Airlines -- have canceled flights from Beijing to destinations such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow, and Amsterdam, and they have set up customer hotlines to assist affected travelers. The massive cloud of volcanic ash -- caused by the ongoing eruption of an Icelandic volcano -- has affected more than 75% of all flights in Europe and stranded tens of thousands of passengers. Flights from the US have also been greatly affected, with almost 84 percent of US-Europe flights canceled.
