Beijing home on exhibit in New York City

A Beijing home and 60 years of its material objects are the centerpiece of a new exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the New York Times writes. The brainchild of Beijing artist Song Dong, the exhibit has transplanted the house in which he grew up and features all of the items his mother saved throughout their life in Beijing--including "clothes, books, kitchen utensils, toiletries, school supplies, shopping bags, rice bowls, dolls" and more. The exhibit continues until September 21 and is a fascinating exploration of life before and after China's economic reforms in the late 1970s--among which a high degree of frugality and relatively low quality of life are major themes.
