Beijing-Chicago flights confirmed

American Airlines this week announced that they will begin servicing direct flights between Beijing and Chicago on May 25 after having agreed upon depature and arrival times, the Dallas Morning News writes. American Airlines has twice delayed the start of direct Beijing-Chicago flights -- the original date was April 26, which was pushed back to May 4 -- as it sought to obtain better departure and arrival time slots. "Beijing Capital International Airport is a slot constrained airport and we recognize the challenges the Chinese aviation authorities face in determining slot assignments," said Craig Kreeger, a senior American Airlines executive. At first there were wide gaps between the two parties: American planned to leave Chicago at 11:25 am and arrive in Beijing at 1:55 pm, but they were instead offered a 2:20 am landing slot and a 4:20 am departure slot, meaning that flights would arrive in Chicago at about 4 am. The new flights now will depart Chicago at 8:30 pm, landing at 11 pm in Beijing, and depart Beijing at 7:59 am and arrive in Chicago at 7:49 am.
